BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin accounts for two of the six Ohio Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners for 2026-27 as Reagan McGee (beach volleyball) and Angus Monro (cross country/track and field) were recognized this morning.
The OVC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest individual honor that can be earned by the league's student-athletes and is given annually to three male and three female student-athletes for their accomplishments in both the classroom and athletic arena as well as their leadership qualities. The six winners were selected from a group of finalists by a vote of OVC Faculty Athletics Representatives as honorees must have performed athletically with distinction, earned at least a 3.5 Grade Point Average and conducted themselves in a manner which has brought credit to the student-athlete, his or her institution, intercollegiate athletics and the OVC. The award is based on academic and athletic criteria/accomplishments achieved during the 2025-26 school year.
Today's announcement marks only the fifth time that the Skyhawks have garnered multiple OVC Scholar-Athletes in the same year, also achieving that feat in 2024-25 (Izzy Patterson/Jonathan Xoinis), 2014-15 (Ben Reeves/Katie Schubert), 1996-97 (Klas Brunskog/Angela Olsen) and 1994-95 (Anna Davis/Caroline Groves). The pair of McGee and Monro are the 23rd and 24th UT Martin recipients of this accolade. Monro is the first cross country/track and field honoree in school history while McGee is the first Skyhawk exclusive beach volleyball winner of this award.
McGee is a two-time All-OVC second team honoree (2025 and 2024) and was also an OVC All-Freshman selection in 2024. The Norfolk, Va. native also has earned a spot on the OVC All-Tournament team in each of the last two seasons (2026, 2025). She also is a two-time winner of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top Flight Award, capturing that honor after her freshman and sophomore seasons. The rising senior owns a 61-26 career record (fifth-most wins in school history) with a remarkable 24-4 all-time record in OVC play entering her senior campaign in 2027.
Outside the sand, McGee sports a 3.97 GPA while majoring in accounting and finance. She has claimed a pair of OVC Academic Medals of Honor (2026, 2025) and has landed on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll in all three seasons at UT Martin. She is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Chi Omega sorority, where she has been involved in numerous community service projects.
A senior from Auckland, New Zealand, Monro is a combined seven-time All-OVC performer, claiming three such honors in cross country (2026 first team, 2025 first team, 2024 second team) and four awards in track and field (indoor distance medley, indoor mile, outdoor 1500 meter run in 2026, indoor distance medley in 2025). A key contributor of the Skyhawks' first-ever OVC team championship squad last fall, he was named OVC Runner of the Week on Oct. 7, 2026 and was spotlighted as OVC Track and Field Athlete of the Week on April 9, 2025.
Monro is responsible for a 3.76 GPA as a civil engineering major, earning the OVC Academic Medal of Honor in 2024 while appearing on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll on three separate occasions. He is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ADCE) and has volunteered at a variety of events on campus and in the Martin/Weakley County communities.
Other winners of the 2026-27 OVC Scholar-Athlete Award include Eastern Illinois' Alisha Frederick (softball), SIUE's Daniel Gierer (baseball), Morehead State's Sydney Sennett (volleyball/beach volleyball) and Southern Indiana's Landen Swiney (cross country/track and field).
