MARTIN, Tenn. – The first day of the 2026 Ohio Valley Conference Championship took place today at the Skyhawk Beach Volleyball Complex as the University of Tennessee at Martin won its tournament opener against Tennessee Tech (3-0) before narrowly falling to Lindenwood (3-2).
The Skyhawks' No. 2 team of Reagan McGee and Dylan Sulcer led the way today with a spotless 2-0 record. UT Martin's No. 3 duo of Luli Arcucci/Lauren Mariscal also earned a victory against Lindenwood while the Skyhawks saw wins out of Andie Kryak/Andie Traiger (No. 4) and Abby Freund/Kristin Phillips (No. 5) in the first match of the day against Tennessee Tech.
UT Martin (15-8) improved to 10-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles after a sweep to open its 2026 postseason. Kryak/Traiger got things started with a 21-14, 21-5 victory for their team-best 14th victory of the spring. Freund/Phillips pushed their record out to 4-1 following a 21-12, 21-15 triumph before McGee/Sulcer sent the Skyhawks into the winner's bracket with a 21-11, 21-16 victory – their sixth triumph in as many tries this season. Arcucci/Mariscal (21-10, 18-12) were close to tacking on another win before their decision went unfinished while Kayla Bryant/Riley Rushing's matchup at No. 1 was also not completed.
The afternoon meeting against the Lions (18-7) came down to a tiebreaking third set as the Skyhawks' comeback attempt fell just short. After Freund/Phillips (21-16, 21-18) and Kryak/Traiger (22-20, 16-21, 17-15) were barely edged by close margins, Arcucci/Mariscal (23-21, 21-14) and McGee/Sulcer (21-18, 21-14) got UT Martin back in the thick of things as the score was knotted at 2-all. Bryant/Rushing got off to a hot start at No. 1 but Lindenwood (18-21, 26-24, 15-10) was able to stave off a valiant Skyhawk effort.
No. 3 seed UT Martin is back in action tomorrow in the double-elimination tournament, taking on No. 5 seed Eastern Illinois at 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
