MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team is set to travel to nationally ranked Southeastern Conference foe Ole Miss on Tuesday, Feb. 26 with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
This marks the 19th time that the Skyhawks and Rebels have matched up with their last meeting coming on March 22, 2016 when Ole Miss claimed an 8-2 victory.
UT Martin (3-3) is coming off of a historic weekend in which it marked the first back-to-back shutouts in the program's Division-I history. The Skyhawks picked up a pair of 1-0 wins over North Alabama and was going for the series sweep before they dropped the final game of the road trip.
Leading UT Martin at the dish is senior outfielder Jordan Stoner (.375 batting average, one double and team-best five RBIs). In all, five Skyhawk batters boast a .300-plus batting average as Billy Edwards (.429) leads the way followed by Stoner, Blake Daniels (.375), Robert Worley (.333) and Casey Harford (.304). Right behind Stoner in the run-production department is Ethan Whitley who has plated four teammates. Four Skyhawks have swiped at least one base while Stoner, Sean Dixson and Creighton Eldridge have all stolen a pair of bases each.
Righty David Hussey (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the starting nod against the SEC opponent. Hussey has been nearly untouchable on the year as he has logged 4.1 innings out of the bullpen and conceded just two hits and issued one walk while recording six strikeouts in that span. His .125 opponents' batting average is first on the squad for pitchers with over two innings to their name. Nick Wohlbold (0-0, 0.00 ERA) has also been a key piece to the UT Martin bullpen as the sophomore has racked up a pair of saves in his four innings of work. He has allowed only four hits and one walk in his time on the mound and rung up six along the way. Jeff O'Doherty and Seth Petry round out the Skyahwks with clean ERAs as the pair have combined to work for 3.1 innings and whiffed nine batters.
No. 10 Ole Miss (4-2) is led by Thomas Dillard who sports an impressive .522 batting average, has belted four homers and tallied 15 RBIs on the young season. Right behind Dillard is Ryan Olenek (.435 batting average, one home run and five RBIs, Jacob Adams (.333 batting average) and Tyler Keenan (.320 batting average, three home runs and 11 RBIs. The Rebels have active on the base paths as they have stolen 13 bases, paced by Anthony Servideo's four followed by the trio of Josh Hall, Dillard and Olenek with a pair apiece.
Southpaw Jordan Fowler (0-0, 6.75 ERA) will toe the rubber for Ole Miss in the matchup. He has only logged 2.2 innings of work so far on the year but managed to ring up a two batters along the way. Doug Nikhazy and Austin Miller have been extremely valuable to the Rebels' bullpen as both have tallied a save each while tallying 10 saves between them in nine innings of work. Connor Green, Tyler Myers and Kaleb Hill have also been key part of the Ole Miss relief corps while Parker Caracci also has a save on the season under 19th-year head coach Mike Bianco.
