
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO CONTINUE ROAD SWING AT NO. 8 MISSISSIPPI STATE ON MONDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball will hit the second leg of its three-game road swing to open the season with a matchup against No. 8 ranked Mississippi State on Monday, Nov. 11. Tipoff from Humphrey Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.
The Skyhawks (0-1) opened the season on Wednesday night with a road contest at Saint Louis. UT Martin jumped out to an early lead, pushing the margin out to 11 points in the first quarter before struggling to score through the second and third periods. After falling behind by 11 points themselves in the fourth quarter, the Skyhawks cut the margin down to four points late but could not overcome the margin, ultimately falling 56-50.
Junior Tamiah Stanford led all players with a career-high 19 points in the season-opener. Sophomore Damiah Griffin also scored in double figures with 15 points and five rebounds while All-OVC junior Chelsey Perry tallied four points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Mississippi State (1-0) enters the season ranked eighth in the Coaches Poll and 10th in the AP Top 25. The Bulldogs are the reigning Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament champions. Highlighting the squad is graduate guard Jordan Danberry which was named to the 2020 Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List.
The Bulldogs posted a 91-58 victory in the season-opener on Saturday. Five different players scored in double figures, led by Chloe Bibby with 16 points while Jamya Mingo-Young, Jessika Carter, Aliyah Matharu and Danberry rounded out the team's double-digit scorers.
UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan boasts a career record of 196-127 in his 11th season. Mississippi State is under the direction of Vic Schaefer who has posted a 275-166 record while going 195-56 in eight seasons leading the Bulldogs.
Monday's game marks the sixth meeting between the two programs in series history dating back to 1980. Mississippi State has won all five meetings, including the last matchup in 2003.
