CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin football team saw its four-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt on the soggy turf of Houck Stadium as costly mistakes proved to be in the different in a 17-10 setback to nationally ranked Ohio Valley Conference foe No. 24 Southeast Missouri.
The Skyhawks (5-3, 4-1 OVC) play mirrored the playing conditions with an uncharacteristically sloppy showing. UT Martin would have a season-high five turnovers – including a critical pick six – while missing a pair of field goals which proved to be the difference in the contest.
UT Martin would outgain Southeast Missouri with 369 yards of total offense to the home squad's 263 while holding its fifth consecutive opponent to under 100 rushing yards – despite allowing a 61-yard touchdown scamper on the opening drive of the second half.
Quarterback John Bachus completed just 14-of-34 pass attempts for 284 yards and one touchdown while throwing a pair of interceptions. Junior running back Peyton Logan saw his streak of 100-yard rushing performance come to an end after tallying 72 yards on 20 attempts while being held out of the endzone. Wide receiver Terry Williams tallied the Skyhawks lone touchdown – a 29-yard leaping grab – while Colton Dowell eclipsed the 100-yard receiving plateau for the second time this season with three catches for 104 yards.
Senior linebacker TJ Jefferson paced the Skyhawks with eight tackles, including one tackle for loss while graduate Cecil Cherry tallied seven stops, including 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Also highlighting the afternoon was an interception by D'Carrious Stephens at the end of the first half while Deven Sims forced a fumble which was recovered by Cam Ordway.
"We have a good football team, but give them credit, they just made one more play than we did," UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson said. "We will bounce back next week. Today featured two good defenses but both offenses left a lot to be desired. I'm very confident that we will bounce back. We have a very good football team, we just weren't good enough in spots today."

No. 24 Southeast Missouri (5-3, 3-1 OVC) capitalized on opportunities in the second half. After making a change at quarterback, the Redhawks saw Joe Pyle keep the ball and run it up the gut 61 yards for a touchdown. The defense then made the game-deciding play with a 32-yard interception return by Omardrick Douglas to the house for a touchdown to make the contest 17-10.
UT Martin will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when playing host to nationally ranked Jacksonville State as the team's marquee Homecoming event. Kickoff from Graham Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
