
UT MARTIN SKYHAWKS UNVEIL 2019 SPRING SOFTBALL SCHEDULE

MARTIN, Tenn. – With the spring season just 32 days away, University of Tennessee at Martin head softball coach Donley Canary announced the team's full 2019 schedule.
The Skyhawks will be challenged with a schedule which features six teams who earned NCAA Tournament berths last season and two others which played in the Postseason NISC. Flooded with a full slate of games, UT Martin will travel to seven states while competing against 17 different conferences in addition to the always challenging Ohio Valley Conference grind.
UT Martin will make its debut on Bettye Giles Field on Saturday, Feb. 23 as the first of 20 scheduled home dates. The Skyhawks will also participate in five non-conference tournaments to begin the season - including hosting its third annual Skyhawk Hampton Inn Classic on March 15-17.
UT Martin will open the season with a five-game tournament appearance at the Georgia Southern Eagle Round Robin in Statesboro, Ga. from Friday, Feb. 8 through Sunday, Feb. 10. The Skyhawks will debut against Winthrop and host Georgia Southern on the opening day before taking on Savannah State and Saint Francis on Saturday. The Skyhawks will then close out the tournament against Georgia Southern on Sunday.
The Skyhawks will travel to Montgomery, Ala. to participant in the Black and Gold Tournament for a five-game set. UT Martin will open the tournament against Alabama A&M on Friday before squaring off against Western Carolina. From there the Skyhawks will play North Alabama and Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday afternoon before closing out the field against host Alabama State.
UT Martin will take a break from tournament action when making its home debut at Bettye Giles Field for a three-game series against Western Illinois. The squad will play a doubleheader against the Fighting Leathernecks on Saturday, Feb. 23 before wrapping up the series on Sunday afternoon.
The following week will see the Skyhawks make a trek down into southwest Tennessee for an appearance at the Blues City Classic in Memphis. UT Martin will square off against Sam Houston State and Loyola (Chicago) on Friday, March 1 before wrapping up the four-game field against Mississippi Valley State and Memphis on Saturday, March 2.
The Skyhawks will once again hit the road for Spring Break with a bundle of games over the week. First the squad will stop in Starkville, Miss. to matchup against Mississippi State on Tuesday, March 5. From there the Skyhawks will travel to DeLand, Fla. to participate in the Stetson Invitational. UT Martin will open the tournament against Bethune-Cookman and Fairfield on Friday, March 8 before taking on Maryland and host Stetson on Saturday. The Skyhawks will then conclude the six-game road swing against Maryland on Sunday.
UT Martin will return home the following week to play host to the third annual Skyhawk Hampton Inn Classic running from Saturday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17. The Skyhawks will play a doubleheader against Green Bay on Friday afternoon before squaring off against Akron and Green Bay once against on Saturday. The classic will finish up on Sunday with a single game against Akron.
With the team's big tournament slate in the rearview mirror, UT Martin will take on five different non-conference opponents for midweek contests. The Skyhawks will travel to Evansville (Wednesday, March 20), Southern Illinois (Wednesday, March 27) and Ole Miss (Tuesday, Apr. 16) while playing host to Middle Tennessee (Wednesday, April 3) and Memphis (Tuesday, April 23).
Conference play will see the Skyhawks play host to defending OVC champion Eastern Kentucky (Friday, March 29), Morehead State (Sunday, March 31), Southeast Missouri (Tuesday, April 9), Murray State (Friday, April 12) and Austin Peay (Sunday, April 14) in doubleheader contests. Meanwhile, UT Martin will travel to Belmont (Saturday, March 23), Tennessee State (Sunday, March 24), Eastern Illinois (Saturday, April 6), SIUE (Friday, April 19), Jacksonville State (Friday, April 26) and Tennessee Tech (Sunday, April 28) to conclude the regular season slate.
