UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS PUTS WINNING STREAK TO THE TEST AT EKU ON THURSDAY
1/15/2019 3:44:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will put its winning streak to the test with a trip to Death Valley over the weekend, beginning with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Jan. 17. Tipoff from McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m. CST.
The Skyhawks (11-4, 3-1 OVC) enter the road trip having won six of the last seven games – including three straight in OVC play after dropping the league opener on the road. A big reason for the team's success has been its ability to play at home, remaining unbeaten in the Elam Center behind a pair of victories against Murray State and Austin Peay last week.
UT Martin have seen senior guard Emanye Robertson take her game to another level. Last week alone, Robertson averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in the pair of victories. Along with her impressive play, she became just the 15th member of UT Martin's 1,000-point Club against Austin Peay. As a whole, UT Martin boasts three players in double figures led by Chelsey Perry (11.6 ppg), Damiah Griffin (10.7 ppg) and Robertson (10.5 ppg).
The matchup pits two of the OVC's veteran head coaches in UT Martin's Kevin McMillan and Eastern Kentucky's Chrissy Roberts. McMillan sits third in OVC history with 184 career victories while Roberts ranks 10th with 122 career wins.
Eastern Kentucky (2-13, 0-4 OVC) enters the contest looking to snap a four-game losing streak and notch its first Division I victory of the season. The Colonels boast a pair of players in double figures in Abby Wright with 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while Shay Solomon is close behind at 11.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Thursday's game will mark the 55th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1974. Eastern Kentucky holds a 31-23 advantage in the series but UT Martin has held its own as of late, winning 13 of the last 14 meetings. The Skyhawks have dropped just one game at McBrayer Arena since the 2009-10 campaign.
The game will be televised live on ESPN+. Fans can also tune into WCMT 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Alex Boggis (color) provide analysis.
