RICHMOND, Ky. – For the second straight game, a double-double by University of Tennessee at Martin sophomore forward Chelsey Perry lifted the Skyhawk women's basketball team to a decisive 87-61 road victory at Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Kentucky on Thursday evening.
The Skyhawks (12-4, 4-1 OVC) won their fourth consecutive game behind a well-rounded effort by the entire squad. While UT Martin saw three different players score in double figures, the story will tell that 12 of the team's 13 players also reached the scoring column in a game which the road squad led for over 37 minutes.
UT Martin would force Eastern Kentucky into 16 turnovers on the night while committing just four themselves. Meanwhile the Skyhawk offense was passive but aggressive, tallying 22 assists while scoring 19 points off turnovers and 34 points in the paint.
Perry led all scorers in the contest with a career-high 25 points while tallying 12 rebounds to notch her second straight game with a double-double and third of her career. Freshman Brittni Moore joined the sophomore in double figures with 11 points off the bench while senior guard Emanye Robertson chipped in 10 points of her own.
"Tonight was a nice road victory," UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan said. "It seemed like we had a chance to push it out but at times we went into a bit of lull. In the second half we finally found a way to push it out and picked up a big road win. It is especially nice because pretty much everyone scored and contributed. We just want this team's best at all stages of the development process and I think we got better this week."
Eastern Kentucky (2-14, 0-5 OVC) dropped its fifth consecutive outing despite a well-balanced scoring column. Four different Colonels scored in double figures led by the play of Catie Kaifes with 18 points. Shay Solomon (13 points), Bria Bass (12 points) and Teri Goodlett (11 points) also score in double figures in the contest.
UT Martin will continue the Death Valley road trip with a matchup at Morehead State on Saturday, Jan. 19. Tipoff from Ellis Johnson Arena is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CST.
