
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS SET TO SQUARE OFF AGAINST SENIOR-LADEN MOREHEAD STATE SQUAD ON SATURDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look finish up the road trip strong as the squad puts its four-game winning streak to the test with a matchup against Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State on Saturday, Jan. 19. Tipoff from Ellis Johnson Arena is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CST and can be seen exclusively on ESPN3.
The Skyhawks (12-4, 4-1 OVC) enter the contest riding a four-game winning streak after an impressive outing against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. UT Martin would win the contest 87-61, notching the team's ninth game this season with at least 80 points offensively. The Skyhawks controlled the contest throughout, leading for over 37 minutes while watching as 12 of the team's 13 available players score in the contest. As a whole, the Skyhawks would use its 15th ranked defense (21.3 forced turnovers per game) to force 16 turnovers as opposed to just four committed.
Sophomore Chelsey Perry stole the show for the Skyhawks on both sides of the ball for the second straight game. After notching her first double-double of the season against Austin Peay, she raised the bar against Eastern Kentucky by notching a new career-high with 25 points while tying a previous career-high with 12 rebounds. The feat marked the first time since 2015 that a Skyhawk has notched 10 or more rebounds in consecutive contests. Perry will look to continue her hot streak on Saturday when facing off against Morehead State, a team in which she averaged 22.5 points and nine rebounds against as a freshman.
The contest pits two of the country's elite offenses in terms of scoring output. Heading into the matchup, UT Martin ranks seventh nationally with 82.9 points per game while Morehead State ranks ninth with 82.4 points per game. Defensively, UT Martin ranks fourth nationally with 12.6 steals per game while Morehead State ranks 16th with 11.6.
Morehead State (12-6, 3-2 OVC) boasts a veteran group which features six seniors, five juniors and a graduate student on its roster. The explosive Eagles boast four players in double figures led by Rutgers transfer Aliyah Jeune with 19.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while senior Miranda Crockett is close behind with 18.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The duo is joined in double figures by the pair of Mckenzie Calvert (10.8 ppg) and Darianne Seward (10.3 ppg).
Saturday's contest marks the 50th meeting between the two programs with Morehead State holding a 27-22 series advantage dating back to 1993. The Eagles has won three straight against the
Skyhawks dating back to the 2016-17 season. As a whole, UT Martin is 6-6 against Morehead State under head coach Kevin McMillan – the worst mark against any OVC opponent.
