SOFTBALL SKYHAWKS PREPARE FOR 2019 SEASON WITH THE START OF OFFICIAL PRACTICE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team officially opens preparations for the 2019 season with the start of official team practice on Saturday, Jan. 12.
UT Martin enters its 18th season with veteran head coach Donley Canary at the helm. The Skyhawks are a young squad with a few veterans sprinkled in, that combined together are ready to get to work. The squad will look to improve upon last season's campaign in which the Skyhawks posted a 25-32 record and an early exit from the OVC Softball Championship.
The Skyhawks return eight players from last year's squad – including a pair of seniors in Alli Fulcher and Gracyn McBride which will look to mentor the team's 11 newcomers. The Skyhawks are highlighted by Fulcher which returns for her fourth season as a starter at shortstop after posting a .293 batting average with 10 doubles, five home runs and 23 RBIs last season. McBride also posted a nice junior campaign, tying for the team lead with five home runs while driving in 20.
UT Martin will conduct its rigorous preseason practice schedule before ultimately kicking off the year at the Georgia Southern Eagle Round Robin in Statesboro, Ga. running from Friday, Feb. 8 through Sunday, Feb. 10.
