MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball program will play 30 regular season matches this fall, as Skyhawk head coach Jaclynn Wilson announced the full 2018 schedule today.
The 2018 docket includes matchups against 11 teams who posted winning records and six programs who advanced to the postseason in 2017. Overall, UT Martin will face teams from 14 different conferences during the upcoming 2018 campaign.
"Without a doubt, this is the toughest schedule we have put together since I have been here," said Wilson, who enters her fourth season at the helm of the Skyhawk program. "We are going to face high-quality opponents and will have to be at our best every single time we take the floor. Our goal is to have the team ready to fire on all cylinders in time for Ohio Valley Conference play."
An exhibition match is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18 as UT Martin hosts new Division I member North Alabama at 3 p.m. at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
UT Martin officially begins the 2018 season at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky. The Skyhawks will take on defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion Louisville and 2017 postseason participant IUPUI on Aug. 24 before clashing against Southern Illinois on Aug. 25.
The previously announced Skyhawk Invitational follows on Aug. 30 through Sept. 2, as five teams will combine to play 10 matches in the tournament. UT Martin battles against defending Southland Conference champion Central Arkansas in the tournament opener on Aug. 30 before squaring off against Memphis (Aug. 31), UAB (Sept. 1) and Florida A&M (Sept. 2) in the program's first home tournament since 2014.
The Skyhawks then head to Macon, Ga. for the Mercer Bears Classic on Sept. 7-8. UT Martin is pitted against Jacksonville and Mercer on the opening day before closing out its tournament participation against 2017 postseason participant Alabama A&M.
The fourth and final nonconference tournament takes place on Sept. 14-15 when the Skyhawks travel to Tucson, Ariz. for the Wildcat Classic. UT Martin takes on host Arizona and UC Davis on Day 1 of the tournament before a single match against New Mexico State on Day 2.
OVC play begins with a two-match homestand on the following weekend as the Skyhawks will play host to Murray State and defending league champion Austin Peay on Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, respectively.
UT Martin faces a three-match road swing at OVC rivals SIUE (Sept. 28), Eastern Illinois (Sept. 29) and Southeast Missouri (Oct. 2) before returning home for a Oct. 5 home match against Jacksonville State.
The Skyhawks head back on the road the following weekend to take on Morehead State (Oct. 10) and Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 11) in rare Wednesday/Thursday showdowns.
Six of the final nine regular season matches take place at Skyhawk Fieldhouse as UT Martin faces three straight opponents from the Volunteer State at home. That stretch begins with OVC contests against Tennessee State (Oct. 19) and Belmont (Oct. 20) before a nonconference matchup against Middle Tennessee on Oct. 24.
Road matches at Austin Peay (Oct. 26) and Murray State (Oct. 27) follow before the month of November begins with three consecutive home matches. The Skyhawks take on Eastern Illinois on Nov. 2, SIUE on Nov. 3 and Southeast Missouri on Nov. 6 to close out the home portion of the 2018 schedule.
The regular season finale is set for Nov. 10 as UT Martin heads across the state to take on Tennessee Tech.
