BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second time this season and third time in her illustrious University of Tennessee at Martin career, senior libero Brooke Gyori has been crowned as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Gyori pieced together yet another milestone weekend for the Skyhawks, going off for 61 digs (6.78 per set) in two weekend matches. As a direct result, she now leads the OVC with a 5.18 digs per set average.
The Oregon, Ohio native started her weekend with a match-high 27 digs in five sets against Eastern Illinois on Friday, notching her 1,000th career dig in only her 55th match at UT Martin. The next day against SIUE, Gyori equaled a career-high with 34 digs in only four sets. She reached the double-digit plateau in digs in three out of the four sets.
Gyori's 585 digs this season already rank fifth in Skyhawk single-season history. Her 1,055 career digs have cracked the program's all-time top-10 list as she is the only two-year player in UT Martin history to generate at least 1,000 scoops.
The Skyhawks close out the regular season this week, playing host to OVC foe Southeast Missouri tomorrow at 6 p.m. before traveling to Tennessee Tech for a 2 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Nov. 10.
