KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team was awarded three spots on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's All-South Region Team as Amy McGivern and Kaci Mitchell were named to the second team while Danae Kaldaridou was named to the third team.
This marks the first time since 2014 and just the second instance in the Phil McNamara Era that UT Martin soccer has claimed All-South Region Team honors when Amy Maksimowicz, Rianna Jarrett and Dominika Conc were tabbed to the prestigious list.
A Drumaness, Northern Ireland native, McGivern took home the Ohio Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Year award. She was outstanding throughout the OVC as she paced the league in points (29), goals (14) and game-winning goals (six). In conference play alone, she led the way in shots (47), points (25), goals (12) and game-winning goals (four). The senior midfielder garnered a pair of OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors as well as a Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women's Soccer Player of the Week award after she netted a total of five goals between the matches against Belmont and Austin Peay.
A defender out of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mitchell was awarded the OVC's Defensive Player of the Year accolade. She was a key piece of a Skyhawk defense that has allowed a mere 0.89 goals per contest and just 7.1 shots per match. She played a total of 1,466 minutes on the pitch while also garnering an OVC Defensive Player of the Week award after the Skyhawks produced a 3-0 shutout over SIUE and forced a 0-0 draw against Eastern Illinois.
A midfielder from Athens, Greece, Kaldaridou finished out the season ranked in the top-10 in the OVC in shots (49), points (16) and assists (four). She was also a force in the UT Martin midfielder corps that held opposing offenses at bay. She also garnered an All-OVC first team nod for her work on the pitch.
UT Martin finished out the 2018 campaign with a program-record 15 victories, 10 conference postseason accolades and its fourth OVC Regular Season Championship.
