The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will return home for another homestand with a matchup against regional foe Arkansas State on Saturday, Nov. 17. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (2-1) are coming off a heartbreaking loss at mid-major power IUPUI on Tuesday evening. After leading for over 27 minutes in the contest, the Skyhawks gave up a three-pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining to drop the road contest 73-72 and earn their first loss of the season. In the contest, three players scored in double figures led by a career night from redshirt-freshman Damiah Griffin who tallied 14 points while sophomore Maddie Waldrop tallied 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.
UT Martin boasts a balanced scoring attack with five players averaging over nine points per game. Sophomore Chelsey Perry paces the team with 12.7 points and four rebounds per game while senior Emanye Robertson is averaging 10.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Griffin (10.0 ppg), Zaire Hicks (9.7 ppg) and Sade' Hudson (9.0 ppg) ground out the potent scoring group.
Arkansas State (1-1) enters the contest riding high after a strong comeback victory at home against Memphis, outscoring its opponent 29-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The Red Wolves are led offensively by the play of Jireh Washington and Peyton Martin with 15.0 points per game.
Saturday's meeting will mark the 14th matchup between the two program in series history with UT Martin holding a narrow 7-6 margin dating back to 1980. The Skyhawks are 5-1 against the Red Wolves in the Elam Center.
