Former University of Tennessee at Martin letterman Austen Bullington is in his second season on the Skyhawk baseball staff in 2021.
During the abbreviated season in 2020, the Skyhawks posted a victory over a ranked opponent (No. 30 South Alabama on Feb. 21), produced the school's first-ever NCBWA Preseason All-American (Nick Wohlbold) and a pair of Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-Americans (Christian Hall and Wil LaFollette) for the first time in school history.
As a senior in 2019, Bullington emerged as the Skyhawks' Friday night starting pitcher. The right-hander from Newburgh, Ind. made 15 starts, which was the second-most in program history in a single season. He logged a pair of complete games - the first time a UT Martin hurler went the distance multiple times since 2009. He ranked in the top-10 of the Ohio Valley Conference in innings pitched (84.2, seventh), ERA (4.15, ninth) and fewest walks (26, 10th).
Bullington earned the starting nod on the mound for the program's first postseason game since 2011, tossing six strong innings with just one earned run allowed against Eastern Illinois in the opening round of the OVC Tournament.Â
In 2018, Bullington made 17 appearances with six starts. He ranked second on the squad with 66 innings pitched, sporting a 42:19 strikeout-to-walk ratio.Â
For his Skyhawk career, Bullington appeared in 33 games, making a start in 21 of those. He tallied 150.2 innings with 91 strikeouts while issuing only 45 walks.
Before joining the UT Martin program, Bullington was a standout at Wabash Valley College. He graduated from Castle High School in 2015.
Bullington is currently pursuing a degree in health and human performance.
