JaVaughn Craig enters his third season as an assistant coach at UT Martin in 2025, serving as the team’s tight ends coach.
UT Martin’s tight ends group ranked as the best offensive unit in the Big South-OVC Football Association under the direction of Craig. The tandem of all-conference performer Max Dowling (278 yards and five touchdowns) and newcomer Tyler Dostin (406 yards and five touchdowns) led the Association with offensive production from tight ends by combining for 708 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Skyhawks also boasted the Big South-OVC's top scoring offense at 31.4 points per outing and best red zone offense at an 87.8 percent conversion rate.
Craig previously served as the team's running backs coach during the 2023 season, mentoring a group which ranked eighth nationally in rushing offense (223.0 yards per game). Highlighting the group was consensus All-American and Walter Payton Award Finalist Sam Franklin who ranked third nationally in rushing yards per game (126.3 ypg), fourth in rushing yards (1,389), seventh in all-purpose yards (136.9 ypg) and 22nd in rushing touchdowns (11).
Before joining the staff at UT Martin, Craig served as an offensive graduate assistant at Memphis for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. During his tenure with the Tigers, the squad won two bowls games with victories in the EasyPost Hawai’i Bowl (2021) and the SERVPRO First Responders Bowl (2022).
Prior to his coaching career, Craig was no stranger to the Ohio Valley Conference after being named to the All-OVC first team in 2019 and earning All-American honors from HERO Sports (first team) and Stats Perform (third team). Craig led the Govs to an 11-4 record and a share of the 2019 OVC regular season championship while reaching the third round of the NCAA Division I Playoffs.
During his senior campaign, the quarterback completed 234-of-406 pass attempts (58.0 percent) for 3,208 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also did damage on the ground where he tallied 135 carries for 714 yards and nine touchdowns.
Vaughn graduated from Austin Peay in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
