Devin Santana enters his first season as an assistant coach at UT Martin since joining the staff in the spring of 2022, serving as defensive line coach.
Prior to joining UT Martin, Santana served as an assistant defensive line coach at Auburn. During his tenure, he helped mentor NFL Draft selection Colby Wooden and Marcus Harris. He also assisted with meeting preparations and film breakdown – including short yardage/goal line planning. Other duties included serving as a special teams assistant while running the scout team offense.
Before Auburn, Santana spent the one year at Appalachian State where he was a defensive line quality control analyst. He mentored four all-conference selections in Demetrius Taylor (first team selection and NFL Draft selection by Detroit Lions), Nick Hampton (third team), Jordon Earle (third team) and Caleb Spurlin (third team).
Prior to a brief stop at IMG Academy in 2021 as the team’s linebacker coach and post grad defensive coordinator, he spent the 2020 campaign at Wake Forest as a defensive quality control assistant. He also served as a defensive graduate assistant at his alma mater Alabama State during in 2019, working directly with defensive coordinator Travis Pearson.
Santana played three seasons for Alabama State, appearing in 27 games over that time before an injury sidelined him late in the 2018 season. His best season came during his junior campaign in which he played 11 games at on the defensive line. He recorded 33 total tackles, including 18 solo stops, while also recording 5.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a pair of fumbles. He also played one year at Florida Atlantic following a prep career at Sickles High School (Tampa, Fla.).
Santana graduated from Alabama State with a bachelor’s degree in coaching/criminal justice in 2020. He also received his master’s in education.
