Alex Kotheimer is in his second season as a volunteer assistant for the Skyhawk baseball program in 2022.
Last season, Kotheimer was part of a UT Martin staff that produced a trio of Ohio Valley Conference postseason honorees (tied for the second-most in school history). The Skyhawks shattered numerous school records in 2021, a season which included a pair of victories over nationally ranked opponents (No. 22 Alabama on Feb. 24 and No. 11 Ole Miss on May 18).
Kotheimer came to UT Martin from Ohio University, where he served as the director of baseball operations under head coach Rob Smith in 2020. Previously, Kotheimer was an assistant coach for Lawrence Nesselrodt at West Virginia Tech, a NAIA university located in Beckley, W. Va.
A Templeton, Calif. native, Kotheimer spent two summers as the head coach of the Covington Lumberjacks in the Valley Baseball League based out of Virginia. He helped guide the Lumberjacks to a remarkable turnaround in 2018, as he led the squad to the VBL regular season championship after Covington had finished in last place during the previous summer. For his efforts, Kotheimer was named 2018 VBL Coach of the Year after his debut season.
In 2017, Kotheimer served as the hitting coach for the Arroyo Seco Sentinels of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League.
During his collegiate playing career, Kotheimer played at San Diego Mesa (2014-15) and San Francisco State (2016) before finishing up at West Virginia Tech in 2017. As a sophomore at San Diego Mesa, he earned All-Pacific Coast Athletic Association accolades. The speedy outfielder hit over .300 in three out of his four years, tallying with 101 hits, 76 runs scored, 36 RBI's and 17 stolen bases over 130 career games.
Kotheimer graduated from West Virginia Tech with a degree in sport management in 2018 and received his Master's degree in sport coaching from West Virginia University in 2020.
