Mariscal And Traiger Go Undefeated In Skyhawks’ Final Two Nonconference Outings

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 4 duo of Lauren Mariscal and Amara Traiger guided the University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball squad today as the Skyhawks concluded nonconference play at the Scenic City Showdown. The Mariscal/Traiger tandem was responsible for a pair of victories as UT Martin fell by 4-1 margins to Eastern Kentucky and North Alabama.
Teaming up for the first time this season in yesterday's double dual nightcap against Berry, Mariscal and Traiger are now 3-0 together this season out of the No. 4 slot in the lineup. They posted a 21-17, 14-21, 15-13 triumph this morning against Eastern Kentucky before dialing up a 17-21, 21-11, 15-11 victory against their North Alabama counterparts.
The Skyhawks kept the same five pairs for both matches today as Kayla Bryant/Riley Rushing occupied the No. 1 spot and was followed by Maddy Gladson/Reagan McGee (No. 2), Luli Arcucci/Dylan Sulcer (No. 3), Mariscal/Traiger (No. 4) and Andie Kryak/Kristin Phillips (No. 5).
Against Eastern Kentucky (17-10), UT Martin saw Arcucci/Sulcer nearly nab a win before falling 21-18, 15-21, 15-12 in a third-set tiebreaker. Bryant/Rushing battled before falling 21-17, 21-16 while Gladson/McGee (21-14, 21-11) and Kryak/Phillips (21-9, 22-20) additionally came up just short.
In this afternoon's tilt against North Alabama (18-12), Arcucci/Sulcer again went into a tiebreaker before narrowly falling 21-16, 17-21, 15-10. Kryak/Phillips dropped a tight battle (21-16, 21-17) while Bryant/Rushing competed throughout in a 21-17, 21-15 setback. Gladson/McGee also fell 21-11, 21-13 in the second wave of matchups.
The Skyhawks put the finishing touches on the regular season with an Ohio Valley Conference Weekend at Morehead State. UT Martin will take on Tennessee Tech and Morehead State on Friday, April 17 before facing Eastern Illinois and Lindenwood on Saturday, April 18.
