Skyhawks Host Mississippi Valley State For Four Games This Weekend; Doubleheader Set For Friday

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team welcomes in Mississippi Valley State for a four-game series this weekend with several time changes for the contests. The doubleheader for Friday, March 6 will begin at noon and the second game of the twin billing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's gametime will be announced at a later date due to the impending weather.

The Skyhawks (4-7) rank as one of the best offenses in NCAA Division I college baseball in batting average (18th, .328), stolen bases (18th, 33), doubles per game (23rd, 2.45) and hits (25th, 131). UT Martin leads the Ohio Valley Conference in slugging percentage (.484) while ranking second in on-base percentage (.418).

TJ Grines continues to pace the country in stolen bases (15) and Andrew Davis is 19th in NCAA DI baseball in stolen bags (9). Colten Payton has climbed the leaderboards in hits per game ranking eighth in the country in that category (1.91). The Martin, Tenn. native Garner Anderson is carrying one of the hottest bats in the country as he stands with the nation's best in OPS (sixth, 1.605), slugging percentage (eighth, 1.000) and on-base percentage (10th, .605).

Reigning OVC Pitcher of the Week and Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week Jacob Sitton is coming off his best performance of the season. The righty got the win against Bradley on Friday evening going seven innings (career-best), striking out eight batters (career-high) and allowing no runs. The Bradford, Tenn. native sits at sixth in the conference in earned run average (2.25). Left-hander Will Turner boasts a .191 opposing batting average (seventh in the OVC) while Trevor Busyn and Mason Little are tied for fifth in the league in saves.

Mississippi Valley State (2-7) heads to Skyhawk Field for the first time since 2002. The Delta Devils have won back-to-back games over Jackson State and Alcorn, respectively. Sophomore Eric Williams leads the team in batting average (.355), slugging percentage (.516) and RBIs (7). On the mound, Kobe Ladd touts a spotless ERA in three appearances and Luke Richard has fanned six batters (team-high).
