
Skyhawks Begin Five-Game Homestand On Tuesday Against Southern Illinois

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team returns to Skyhawk Field this Tuesday, March 24 at 5 p.m. when it hosts Southern Illinois to begin a five-game homestand.

UT Martin (10-13) is 15th in the country in stolen bases with 65 on the year while ranking 21st nationally in doubles (54). At the plate, the Skyhawks are fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in batting average (.301) and slugging percentage (.456). On the mound, UT Martin is second in the Ohio Valley Conference in saves (six).

TJ Grines currently paces all of NCAA DI baseball in stolen bases (24) and Andrew Davis is ranked top-25 in swiped bags (21st, 16). Grines also leads the OVC in doubles (10) while Ganer Anderson ranks atop of the conference leaderboard in slugging (.809) and on base percentage (.541).

Junior right-handed pitcher Jacob Sitton's 2.21 earned run average is good enough for fourth in the OVC and senior righty Maxwell Schumacher has fanned 25 batters (sixth in the OVC) over 33.2 innings (eighth in the OVC). Mason Little's four saves are second-most in the league and already rank eighth on the Skyhawks' single season record list.

Southern Illinois (9-13) visits UT Martin after a three-game set against Missouri Valley Conference foe UIC in Chicago, Ill. The Salukis carry a .276 batting average (third in the MVC) into the contest and on the mound place third in the conference in ERA (5.65). Redshirt senior Tim Simay is ninth in the MVC in hits (29) while righty Andrew Evans leads the league in strikeouts (35).
