
Skyhawks Complete UCA Spring Break Invitational With Split

CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball squad picked up a victory in its final match of the UCA Spring Break Invitational today, downing Mary Hardin-Baylor by a 4-1 margin for its third win of the tournament. Earlier in the day, the Skyhawks put up a fight but fell by a slim 3-2 margin to Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Three UT Martin pairs were undefeated today, led by 2-0 records from the No. 1 duo of Riley Rushing/Dylan Sulcer and No. 2 tandem of Kayla Bryant/Reagan McGee. Bella Heyne and Kristin Phillips also made their season debut together at No. 5 against Mary Hardin-Baylor, winning their matchup.
The Skyhawks' No. 4 pair of Andie Kryak/Amara Traiger also provided a win at No. 4 against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Martin received wins out of its top two spots in the lineup. Rushing/Sulcer posted a gritty 21-15, 24-26, 15-10 win while Bryant/McGee collected a 21-15, 21-19 triumph. Kryak/Traiger narrowly fell in a three-set tiebreaker (5-21, 21-18, 15-10) while Phillips/MC Rehm (21-19, 21-18) and Luli Arcucci/Lauren Mariscal (21-12, 21-17 at No. 3) were embroiled in tight battles before falling.
The Skyhawks (6-3) ended the day on a high note, earning a convincing win over Mary Hardin-Baylor. Rushing/Sulcer generated a 17-21, 21-15, 15-11 win for its eighth win of the season while Bryant/McGee produced their seventh victory of the spring (21-10, 21-17). Kryak/Traiger dominated for their fifth win of the season during a 21-8, 21-8 victory while Heyne/Phillips compiled an 18-21, 21-16, 15-7 win. Arcucci/Mariscal battled but dropped a 21-12, 21-17 decision at No. 3.
UT Martin moves forward with Ohio Valley Conference play next weekend, taking on four league foes at the OVC Weekend in Chattanooga on Friday, March 27 through Saturday, March 28.
