Skyhawks Narrowly Fall To Chattanooga On Senior Day

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball team held its home and Ohio Valley Conference opener today, battling throughout before dropping a slim 3-2 decision to Chattanooga.

The Skyhawks honored Kristin Phillips and Riley Rushing before the match as part of Senior Day festivities. It was a tight matchup throughout as three of the five pairings went into decisive third sets but the Mocs (6-3, 1-0 OVC) were able to outlast UT Martin.

The Skyhawks' No. 1 (Rushing/Dylan Sulcer) and No. 3 (Luli Arcucci/Lauren Mariscal) duos each picked up big wins today. Rushing/Sulcer improved to 4-1 on the young season after a gritty 19-21, 21-14, 16-14 triumph while Arcucci/Mariscal dialed up their third victory of the spring with a 21-19, 17-21, 15-12 decision.

Phillips/MC Rehm came close to a victory at No. 5 but fell 21-12, 14-21, 15-6 in a third-set tiebreaker. UT Martin's No. 4 tandem of Andie Kryak/Amara Traiger also put up a fight but dropped a 21-17, 21-18 decision. The Mocs' third and final point came at No. 2 as the Skyhawk pair of Kayla Bryant/Reagan McGee fell by a 21-13, 22-20 margin.

UT Martin (3-2, 0-1 OVC) is back in action this weekend at the UCA Spring Break Invitational in Conway, Ark. The Skyhawks will take on Texas A&M-Kingsville (8 a.m.) and tournament host Central Arkansas (12 p.m.) on Friday, March 20 before once again battling Texas A&M-Kingsville (8 a.m.) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (12 p.m.) on Saturday, March 21.
