BRENTWOOD, Tenn.- After one of the best weekends of his University of Tennessee at Martin baseball career, Skyhawk standout Garner Anderson was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Â
The Martin Tenn. native exploded down on the Bayou with a whopping 2.669 OPS against Nicholls. Six of the redshirt junior's seven hits were for extra bases (three home runs, three doubles) while he brought home 10 RBIs.
Â
He smacked a pinch-hit double in his first AB of the weekend which led to him scoring the go-ahead run in the 12th in Game 1. In his second game, he drove in two runs off a double and later scored. During the second part of the Saturday doubleheader, he tattooed a towering shot over the left field wall and finished with his first multi-hit game of the season. Game 4 was the cherry on top for him as he went 3-3 with two three-run homers (first multi-home run game of his career), a double, a walk and six RBIs (career-high).
Â
He became the 19th student-athlete in program history to be named OVC Player of the Week.
Â
Anderson and the Skyhawks start an 11-game home stand on Tuesday, Feb. 24 against Murray State at 3 p.m.
