
UT Martin Finishes OVC Road Swing Through Illinois Tomorrow Against The Leathernecks

MARTIN, Tenn. – A quick jaunt through the Land of Lincoln for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad concludes tomorrow with a visit to Ohio Valley Conference rival Western Illinois. Tipoff from Western Hall in Macomb, Ill. is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
The OVC-leading Skyhawks (16-5) will look to complete its second straight season sweep of a league opponent as UT Martin defeated the Leathernecks by a 67-60 margin at home on Jan. 1. In that game, the Skyhawks attempted 48 of their 57 field goal tries from inside the lane - resulting in a 40-20 edge in points in the paint. Filip Radaković came away with 18 points while Matas Deniusas (12 points), Pedro Santos (10 points) and Andrija Bukumirović (nine points, nine rebounds) also heavily factored in the UT Martin victory.
The Skyhawks are coming off a 76-68 road triumph at Eastern Illinois on Thursday, improving to 8-2 in the OVC standings for the first time in school history. Bukumirović's game-high 21 points and nine rebounds led the way for UT Martin while Damien King (career-best 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting) and Afan Trnka (10 points, season-high six rebounds, four assists) additionally guided the Skyhawks.
UT Martin's stinginess continues to persist as the Skyhawks rank amongst the best NCAA Division I institutions in three-point field goal percentage defense (.276, seventh), field goal percentage defense (.386, eighth) and scoring defense (64.43 points per game, 11th).
Western Illinois (4-18, 0-11 OVC) battled until the end in a 78-74 home setback against Southeast Missouri on Thursday as the contest featured nine lead changes and seven ties. Lucas Lorenzen's game-high 20 points paced the Leathernecks, who also received 14 points apiece from Goanar Biliew and Makai Kvamme.
Against the Skyhawks earlier this season, Lorenzen (23 points) and Isaiah Griffin (21) combined for nine triples and 73.3 percent of Western Illinois' scoring.
