MARTIN, Tenn. – For the first time in nearly five months, the University of Tennessee at Martin golf squad will tee it up in an official capacity when the 2025-26 season kicks off at the Grover Page Classic on Monday, Sept. 15 through Tuesday, Sept. 16.
The 22nd annual version of the Skyhawks' home tournament will take place in Memphis, Tenn. as 95 players from 16 different universities will descend upon The Links at Audubon. The par-71 course, which underwent a major renovation before reopening in August 2024, will play at 6,963 yards for the first two rounds on Monday and 6,904 yards for Tuesday's third and final round.
This year's field includes Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bellarmine, Belmont, Central Arkansas, East Texas A&M, Eastern Illinois, Memphis (individuals only), Murray State, New Orleans, Nicholls, North Alabama (individuals only), Southeastern Louisiana, SIUE, Southern Indiana, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin will vie for the tournament crown.
Following a practice round on Sunday, Sept. 14, the stroke-play tournament will consist of 54 holes (36 on Monday, 18 on Tuesday). The first round tees off with a shotgun start on Monday at 8:15 a.m. with Round 2 to follow later that afternoon. Monday's forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions with a high of 98 degrees, low of 71 and 5 mph winds. The third round will begin with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday, which projects for mostly sunny skies, a high of 99, low of 71 and 6 mph winds.
All nine Skyhawks will take part in the 2025 Grover Page Classic as UT Martin's scoring lineup includes Grant Phillips at No. 1, Drew Williams at No. 2, John-Gregory Wilson at No. 3, Luke Beadles at No. 4 and Luke Caldwell at No. 5. Lucas Herring, Jaden Morrell, Bryce Harmon and Ian Lambert will all compete as individuals.
Sixth-year Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford oversees a roster that includes one senior, one junior, five sophomores and a pair of freshmen. UT Martin brings back six returners – two of whom started in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship tournament a year ago – and welcome in three newcomers to the mix.
"Our upperclassmen Luke Caldwell and Grant Phillips are great leaders as they are multi-year starters and know our program's expectations," Swafford said. "Our four sophomore returners were able to gain experience last season and we feel like they have maybe more experience compared to other sophomores within our conference or even around the country. I've been impressed with the newcomers so far and I know they will push for starting spots throughout the season. I'm excited to see how it all plays out – there are more opportunities this year to step up and make an impact."
Phillips ranked 12th in the OVC last season with a 73.1 stroke average and won his first career tournament – taking home top honors at The Indy at Arlington in March. Williams owned a 74.3 stroke average as a true freshman a year ago, delivering countable scores in 14 of his 18 chances in the Skyhawk lineup. Securing a pair of top-12 tournament finishes as a true freshman last season was Wilson, whose 73.9 stroke average is the second-best of any UT Martin returner. Both Wilson and Luke Beadles will be making their first career collegiate starts as Beadles carded a 75.1 stroke average in seven rounds in 2024-25. Caldwell produced a career-best 74.1 stroke average last season and is the Skyhawks' most experienced player with 77 career rounds.
Morrell registered a 74.6 stroke average and had one top-10 finish (seventh at The Buddy on Oct. 14-15, 2024) as a true freshman a year ago. The trio of Herring (sophomore transfer from NCAA Division III national champion Methodist), Harmon (freshman who helped Bearden High School to its best state tournament in school history) and Lambert (freshman who was 2024 Missouri Golf Association Male Junior Golfer of the Year) are all slated to make their UT Martin debuts.
The Grover Page Classic is the first of 12 regular season tournaments on the Skyhawks' 2025-26 slate. UT Martin heads to the SIUE Dolenc Invitational in Madison, Ill. on Sept. 29-30 before back-to-back weekends at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate (Oct. 6-7 in Jonesboro, Ark.) and The Scrappy at Cobblestone (Oct. 13-14 in Acworth, Ga.). The fall schedule concludes with a trip to Hawaii for the Kapolei Invitational on Nov. 5-6.
The Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate takes place in Statesboro, Ga. on Jan. 31 through Feb. 1 before the Skyhawks travel to the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz. on Feb. 15-17. The People's Golf Championship (St. Simons Island, Ga. on March 12-14) and Austin Peay Intercollegiate (Dickson, Tenn. on March 23-24) occupy the March slate before the final three regular season tournaments all take place in the commonwealth of Kentucky. UT Martin will take part in the Racer Intercollegiate (April 6-7 in Paducah, Ky.), the fifth annual Carpenter/Chaney Classic (April 11 in Paris, Ky.) and the Bluegrass Intercollegiate (April 13-14 in Lexington).
For the first time ever, the OVC Championships will be held in West Lafayette, Ind. as this year's tournament will be held at the Ackerman-Allen Course on the campus of Purdue University. The three rounds of stroke play will cover April 26-28 before the top four teams advance to the match play portion of the tournament on April 29.
