BRENTWOOD, Tenn.- The Ohio Valley Conference released its all-conference award winners today and University of Tennessee at Martin baseball standouts Arderrius Townsend and Cameron Greene were named to the prestigious lists.
Â
Townsend garnered All-OVC second-team accolades while Greene was awarded OVC All-Freshman team honors.
Â
A senior from Pontotoc, Miss., Townsend was stellar in his lone season for the Skyhawks. He ranks tied for sixth in home runs (14) and eighth in slugging percentage (.671) in a single season at UT Martin. On the conference leaderboards, he's second in slugging percentage (.671) and OPS (1.116) while his 14 long balls are fourth-most in the OVC this year. He's been a menace at the plate to league pitchers, batting .390 (fourth in OVC), slugging .753 (second in OVC), compiling an OPS of 1.225 (second in OVC) and reaching base safely at a clip of .472 (tenth in OVC).Â
Â
Townsend's current 29-game on-base streak and 15-game hitting streak is the longest of the season on the team. He becomes the program's first designated hitter to be named to the second-team and second player to bring home all-conference honors in that position (Phil Sorensen, 2011 first team).
Â
A freshman from Brentwood, Tenn., Greene produced a solid start to his UT Martin career by slugging .414 (fourth on the team) with five home runs (third most on the team). His 31 walks lead the Skyhawks and rank in a tie for seventh in a single season in program history. With 11 sacrifice bunts he's second in the conference and has swiped six bags. In league play, he batted .276 with a .409 on-base percentage (second on the team) and .447 slugging percentage (third on the team). He blasted three home runs and smacked four doubles against conference arms while driving in 13 runs.
Â
Greene becomes the first Skyhawk infielder to be named to the OVC All-Freshman team since Ethan Whitley in 2018 and the third player in the last four years for head coach Ryan Jenkins to be placed on the elite list (Blaze Bell, 2022, Zach Wager, 2023).
Â
Townsend and Greene will make their OVC Baseball Championship debut on Wednesday, May 21st at 12:30 p.m. when UT Martin takes on Lindenwood at Mtn Dew Park in Marion, Ill.
