Xoinis Opens NCAA Regional With Steady Performance

AUBURN, Ala. – Despite a 165-minute lightning delay during the latter part of Round 1, University of Tennessee at Martin redshirt senior Jonathan Xoinis submitted a solid scorecard at the NCAA Golf Regional held at Auburn University Club.
Xoinis wrapped up his extended day with a 74 (+2), which ranks 46th overall and sixth-best amongst the 10 golfers competing as an individual in the 75-man field. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native managed 13 pars and two birdies on the course that is playing at 7,607 yards.
"I drove the ball really well," Xoinis said. "I gave myself a lot of looks going into the greens on this tight golf course. I felt like I had a lot of looks at birdies and made two of those but also had a pair of three-putts. I'm pleased with my performance and thought I competed very well. The course was pretty soft and I knew there'd be a premium on iron shots going into the greens. Tomorrow I'll stick with the same strategy – I felt like it worked out pretty well for me today, I just need to putt a little better in Round 2."

Xoinis began his day with a par on Hole No. 1 before rolling in a 25-foot downhill birdie putt on the second hole. Five straight pars followed before his first bogey of the day. He recovered with another par on Hole No. 9 to make the turn at even-par.
Four consecutive pars opened Round 2 for Xoinis before a lightning delay struck at 1:45 p.m. as the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference champion was in progress on Hole No. 14.
Finally resuming play at 4:30 p.m., Xoinis had a double bogey for the first (and only) time today. He answered with a par and his second birdie of the day on the next two holes, his second red score coming after tapping in a 30-foot putt. He bogeyed Hole No. 17 before ending with a par on his final hole of the day.
On the day, Xoinis hit 12 greens in regulation while accounting for a 3.50 (+2) par-3 scoring average, a 4.10 (+1) par-4 scoring average and 4.75 (-1) par-5 scoring average. His 13 pars were the seventh-most in the tournament while he ranks 10th in the field in fewest double bogeys or worse (one).
Xoinis will tee off Hole No. 1 tomorrow at 9:42 a.m., playing alongside fellow individual Yixiang Wang from Memphis and Jas Sohal from USC Upstate.
