
UT Martin Falls To Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team fell 11-4 in Game 2 of the weekend series to Little Rock at Gary Hogan Field.

Garner Anderson (stolen base, RBI, run scored) had three hits and Arderrius Townsend (two RBIs, run scored, home run) recorded two base knocks. Jalen Fithian (hit, run scored, two walks) tied the school record for the most stolen bases in a game (four) while Tommy Koch and Cameron Greene (run scored) also had base hits. Brody Capps (RBI) was able to get on base from a walk.

Zach Wager (5-7) went five innings and struck out three batters while Mason Shropshire, Austin Gast (one inning pitched, two strikeouts, no walks allowed) and Shawn Perez (two innings pitched, no runs, no walks, two strikeouts) made appearances out of the bullpen.

The UT Martin (19-30, 10-12 Ohio Valley Conference) defense got a double play in first and Wager induced a groundout to first base to conclude the first inning. Little Rock (19-28, 8-12 OVC) took the lead in the second frame but were shut down by Wager in the third.

Wager retired the Trojans in order in the fourth by forcing a pop out, groundout and punchout. The Skyhawks cut into the Trojan lead on a solo shot by Townsend over the right field wall in the fifth, but Little Rock responded in the home half.

Townsend drove in his second run of the contest on a single with the bases loaded to make it a three-run game during the top of the sixth. The Trojans extended on their lead in the sixth then Anderson singled to score Greene, and Capps plated Anderson to finish off the seventh inning for the UT Martin offense.

Perez pitched a clean seventh and eighth frame, but the Skyhawks were unable to comeback.

UT Martin will get set for the rubber match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
