Skyhawks Claim Split In Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball squad wrapped up a busy day across the state today, earning a split after a narrow 3-2 setback to Ohio Valley Conference foe Chattanooga and a 4-1 victory over Tusculum at the UTC Sports Complex.

The Skyhawks' No. 3 pairing of Lauren Mariscal/Jenna Vallée teamed up for the first time today and went a perfect 2-0. Overall, each of UT Martin's pairings registered at least one victory on the day as Sydney Eckhardt/Reagan McGee won against Chattanooga while Riley Rushing/Dylan Sulcer, Kayla Bryant/Olivia O'Keefe and Dylan Mott/Ryan Rednour each generated victories against Tusculum.

The first match of the day for the Skyhawks (13-7) came down to the wire before the host Mocs took the final two points for the win. Mott/Rednour joined forces for the first time this spring and fell in a 21-15, 16-21, 18-16 heartbreaker at No. 4. Eckhardt/McGee evened the score at 1-all and improved to 14-0 on the season after a gritty 21-15, 16-21, 18-16 triumph at No. 5 before Mariscal/Vallée gave UT Martin a 2-1 edge following a 21-19, 21-15 victory. However, Chattanooga pulled out the win after taking close calls featuring the Skyhawk pairs of Rushing/Sulcer (21-17, 21-14 at No. 1) and Bryant/O'Keefe (24-22, 21-18 at No. 2).

UT Martin got back on track in the second of back-to-back matches. Mott/Rednour secured a 21-12, 21-13 victory at No. 4 to get the Skyhawks on the scoreboard. After Eckhardt/McGee were outlasted 19-21, 21-18, 15-13 at No. 5, UT Martin swept the remaining three points. Mariscal/Vallée were responsible for a come-from-behind 17-21, 21-14, 15-8 win at No. 3 before Bryant/O'Keefe (21-13, 21-11) delivered the clinching point at No. 2, improving to 15-5 on the season in the process. Rushing/Sulcer added a victory out of the top slot in the lineup, accounting for a 19-21, 21-18, 15-12 win for their 10^th triumph in 2025.

The Skyhawks are home next weekend for the final time this season, hosting Chattanooga in a double dual on Saturday, April 5. Match times are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. as a Senior Day ceremony honoring Eckhardt, Zara McCauley, Mott, O'Keefe, Rednour and Vallée will also take place.
