UT Martin Begins Six-Game Homestand With Doubleheader Against Union On Tuesday

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team will start a six-game homestand on Tuesday, March 18 at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader against in-state rival Union. Game 2 will begin approximately 30 minutes after Game 1 ends.

UT Martin (6-12) leads the Ohio Valley Conference in triples (8), stolen bases (41) and shutouts (three). TJ Grines continues to lead the league in stolen bases with 15 while ranking inside the top-10 in batting average (ninth, .359) and triples (tied for first, two). Brody Capps is currently tied for eighth in the conference in home runs with four and RBIs with 18. Jalen Fithian is coming off an impressive weekend where he went 7-10 against Western Kentucky with two stolen bases.

Righty Drake Bayles is seventh in the league in innings pitched (27.2) and tenth in ERA (4.88). Out of the bullpen, Kaleb Baskin boasts a 3.52 ERA along with nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work while Mason Shropshire has claimed two wins in relief (team-best eight appearances).

Union (10-14) enters Tuesday's contests winners of three of its last five games. The Bulldogs are led offensively by Carson Chavies who bats .395 with a team-high 23 RBIs and four triples. Pitchers Eli Snelson and Lane Evans have combined for 40 strikeouts while Snelson leads the team in innings pitched with 36.
