WACO, Texas – Ahead of its spring opener later this week, the University of Tennessee at Martin once again checked in at No. 9 in this week's National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings.
Five of the top seven spots in last week's poll were altered as Auburn hung on to its No. 1 rank. TCU moved to No. 2 and was followed by No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 SMU, No. 7 Fresno State, No. 8 South Carolina, the No. 9 Skyhawks and No. 10 Baylor.
Today's rankings mark the 35th straight appearance in the NCEA top-10 poll for UT Martin, who has occupied the No. 9 slot for four consecutive editions of rankings dating back to Nov. 26.
The Skyhawks will look to build off a highly successful fall semester where the program pieced together a plethora of individual accolades. Elise Mason was named NCEA Reining Rider of the Month while a total of seven UT Martin riders (Gabby Adams, Lexi Bailey, Elizabeth Becker, Mason, Mia McAfoos, Logan Putvinski, Bridget Vieau) have combined for 16 Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Month or Rider of the Week honors. Two more Skyhawks (Vieau, Aubrey Malone) have accounted for Standout Student-Athlete of the Month awards at either the conference or national level.
UT Martin (4-3) ended the fall with back-to-back league wins, improving to 4-0 in the ECAC standings in the process. All three of the Skyhawk losses in the fall came against nationally ranked opponents (then-No. 10, No. 5 and No. 1 squads).
The UT Martin spring campaign begins on Friday, Feb. 7 when the Skyhawks take on ECAC rival Minnesota-Crookston in Auburn, Ala. The following day, UT Martin will collide against No. 1 Auburn.
