MARTIN, Tenn. – The first of 10 regular season rodeos for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's and women's squad takes place this week when the Skyhawks pay a visit to Missouri Valley College tomorrow through Saturday, Sept. 21.
This week's rodeo kicks off the annual Ozark Region slate for the 2024-25 campaign. It is the first of four consecutive weekends to open the season, followed by West Alabama (Sept. 26-28), Arkansas-Monticello (Oct. 3-5) and Southern Arkansas (Oct. 10-12). A short trip to Murray State on Nov. 14-16 closes out the fall semester and serves as the midway point of the season.
The spring opener is set for March 6-8 at Arkansas Tech while back-to-back weekends follow at East Mississippi (March 13-15) and Pearl River (March 20-22). The 57th Annual UT Martin Spring College Rodeo is scheduled for April 17-19 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex and the regular season finale is set for the following weekend (April 24-26) at Northwest Mississippi.
The College National Finals Rodeo is once again set to take place in Casper, Wyo. as the 77th annual event is scheduled for Sunday, June 15 through Saturday, June 21.
Third-year Skyhawk head coach Chase Thrasher presides over a men's and women's roster that combines for 22 returners (17 cowgirls, five cowboys). A total of 13 newcomers are part of the UT Martin rodeo program as seven fresh faces join the men's squad and six new cowgirls are in line to make their Skyhawk debuts in 2024-25.
The UT Martin women boast a plethora of experience as the Skyhawks earned 2,118.33 points with a pair of victories last season. Emma Kate Wilder is back for her graduate season after ranking third in the Ozark Region in women's all-around points (810), sixth in goat tying (455 points) and eighth in team roping header (250) a year ago. Her sister Anna Wilder is also set to return as she placed fourth regionally in women's all-around (708.33 points), ninth in team roping heeler (250), ninth in breakaway roping (253.3) and 11th in goat tying (130) last season. CNFR contestants from the past two seasons additionally return in 2024 honoree Leah Pitts (third in the Ozark Region with 390 points in breakaway roping) and 2023 participant Savannah Moran (fourth regionally with 495 points in barrel racing). The latter heads a strong returning group in the barrel racing event as Allie Sherman (255 points), Ryanne Frecker (215), Allie Maxwell (135) and Josie Luttrell (135) all racked up enough points to rank in the top-15 in that event in the Ozark Region in 2023-24.
On the men's side, junior Caden Ussery is back after ranking fourth in the Ozark Region in calf roping with 480 points last season. The Skyhawk men's squad recorded 1,380 points in 2023-24 and will look to ascend back atop the Ozark Region standings.
