
UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN VOTED NO. 10 ONCE AGAIN IN FIRST NATIONAL POLL OF FEBRUARY

WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin was tabbed 10th in the latest National Collegiate Equestrian Association rankings, which were unveiled this afternoon.
No changes were made from last week's first poll of the spring. TCU stayed at No. 1 and was followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 SMU, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Auburn, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Delaware State, No. 9 UC Davis and the No. 10 Skyhawks.
UT Martin, who has been idle since Nov. 18, has been remarkably consistent in 2023-24 as the Skyhawks have appeared in all 13 editions of the NCEA top-10 rankings under head coach Kim Leiter.
In the Western discipline, Emma Schaefer owns team-best tallies in wins (five), MOP's (two) and scoring average (69.6) in reining as Lexi Bailey is tied for the team lead in the latter category. In horsemanship, Schaefer tops the squad in victories (three), MOP's (one) and scoring average (73.0) as Bailey, Mia McAfoos also have three victories while Ava Newsom has earned one MOP.
Sydney Hott (team-highs of five victories, one MOP and an 81.2 scoring average) joins Elizabeth Becker and Gabby Adams as UT Martin representatives who have won MOP honors in fences. Sophia Sundem is responsible for team-highs in wins (five), MOP's (one) and scoring average (80.0) in flat while Hott has also registered one MOP medal.
The Skyhawks begin their spring schedule this week at home, playing host to No. 8 Delaware State on Friday, Feb. 9 before taking on No. 9 UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 10. Both meets will take place at 9 a.m. inside the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
