
SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN KEEPS NO. 8 NATIONAL RANKING FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WEEK

WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin kept its spot at No. 8 in this week's National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 poll, which was released this afternoon. The Skyhawks have now been ranked in all 16 polls during the 2023-24 campaign.
UT Martin accounts for 84 head-to-head wins this season, led by the reining squad's 25 victories and six MOP's. Lexi Bailey and Emma Schaefer are tied for the team lead with seven wins apiece while Bailey (69.7 scoring average) and Schaefer (three MOP's) also top the squad in their aforementioned categories. As a team, the Skyhawks have posted a 67.7 scoring average.
In fences, UT Martin has registered 21 wins and four MOP's to go along with a 79.3 team scoring average. Sydney Hott ranks as the team leader in wins (six), MOP's (two) and scoring average (82.0).
Several Skyhawks rank as team leaders in horsemanship. Bailey (six wins, one MOP), Ava Newsom (one MOP), Schaefer (one MOP) and Mia McAfoos (73.0 scoring average) have all contributed to the success of a unit that has produced 20 victories, three MOP's and a 71.3 team scoring average.
Sophia Sundem leads the way for UT Martin in flat as she paces the squad in wins (six), scoring average (79.7) and MOP's (one) – sharing the lead in the latter category with Hott and Haley Kane. The Skyhawks have earned 18 wins, three MOP's and a 78.6 team scoring average in the event.
The NCEA's rankings did not change from last week as TCU remained at No. 1. The Horned Frogs were followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 SMU, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 South Carolina, No. 6 Auburn, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 8 UT Martin, No. 9 UC Davis and No. 10 Delaware State.
The Skyhawks put the finishing touches on the regular season this week, hosting Minnesota-Crookston for Senior Day on Friday, March 1 at 9 a.m.
