
SKYHAWKS CLIMB UP TO NO. 8 IN NATIONAL COLLEGIATE EQUESTRIAN ASSOCIATION RANKINGS

WACO, Texas – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association rewarded the University of Tennessee at Martin for its successful weekend, shooting the Skyhawks up two spots to No. 8 in its newest poll released this afternoon.
UT Martin's No. 8 ranking is the program's highest since March 27, 2018. The Skyhawks have now been recognized in each of the 14 polls released during the 2023-24 season.
In its first two meets of the spring campaign, UT Martin defeated then-No. 8 Delaware State (9-7) and No. 9 UC Davis (10-8) over the weekend. A total of 11 different Skyhawks (six Jumping Seat, five Western) combined for 19 head-to-head victories while UT Martin secured one MOP in each of the four events over the course of two home wins.
A dozen victories were compiled for the Skyhawks in the Western discipline, led by unblemished 2-0 records out of Emma Schaefer, Logan Putvinski and Lexi Bailey. Schaefer boasted a team-high 71.0 scoring average with an MOP against Delware State while Kate Davis went undefeated with a 1-0-1 mark in the event.
Horsemanship included 2-0 individual records from Bailey and Mia McAfoos while Davis managed a 1-0-1 record over the weekend. The duo of McAfoos and Davis shared the team lead with 74.5 scoring averages while Bailey earned a MOP honor against UC Davis.
In fences, Sydney Hott claimed the MOP award over her Delaware State counterpart while Haley Kane was responsible for a team-best 87.0 scoring average. Those two – in addition to Kate Mills and Gabby Adams – registered wins over the weekend.
Kane nabbed the flat MOP accolade against Delaware State while Elizabeth Becker went undefeated (1-0-1) with a team-high 84.5 scoring average in that event. Bridget Vieau also went unbeaten with a 1-0-1 mark in flat for UT Martin.
Today's NCEA rankings featured TCU at No. 1, Texas A&M at No. 2, SMU at No. 3, South Carolina at No. 4, Georgia at No. 5, Auburn at No. 6, Oklahoma State at No. 7, the Skyhawks at No. 8, UC Davis at No. 9 and Delaware State at No. 10.
