After a four-game road trip, the Skyhawks team returned home to the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center Sunday and picked up a win over Arkansas State, 82-71. UT Martin shot 60.0-percent from the floor and 50.-percent from 3-point range in the second half, to finish the game with a season-high 54.5 field goal percentage and a 3-point percentage of 47.4-percent.
Morehead State ended the non-conference portion of its schedule Sunday with a 120-46 win over IU Columbus at home, moving them to 5-5 on the season. Kate Novik does it all for the Eagles leading her team in points (16.2), rebounds (6.3), assists (5.0), steals (3.1) and blocks (1.1). The Eagles currently average 74.4 points per game and are outscoring their opponents by a margin of 5.8 points per game.
For the first time this season, a Skyhawk was named as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week. Shae Littleford picked up the honor after leading the Skyhawks to win over Arkansas State Sunday. Littleford led UT Martin against the Red Wolves with a season-high 27 points, going 11-for-14 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, as well as tallying a game-high five steals. In addition, she added three assists, two rebounds and was a perfect 1-for-1 at the free throw line. The honor is the second of her career for the Charleston, Illinois native, last winning in February of 2023.
The Skyhawks open their 33rd season of OVC play Thursday and are 14-18 all-time in league openers and 8-10 when those opening games are played on the road. UT Martin is 0-3 all-time in OVC openers against Morehead State and 0-2 in those games at Johnson Arena in Morehead.
With three rebounds against Arkansas State, Anaya Brown moved into 17th all-time in career rebounds for the Skyhawks with 509, passing Melissa Brown who finished her career with 508.
With nine made 3-pointers against Arkansas State, the Skyhawks have now made at least one 3-point field goal in 491 consecutive games, a streak which dates back to Feb. 3, 2009, against Austin Peay and currently, ranks 8th nationally.
At 15-for-15, Kenley McCarn is currently perfect at the free throw line this season. She is currently on a streak of 19 consecutive made free throws, dating back to when she made her last four free throw attempts in last season's OVC semifinal against Little Rock.
