WACO, Texas – A mere three days after the University of Tennessee at Martin put the finishing touches on an impressive fall semester, the National Collegiate Equestrian Association once again slotted the Skyhawks at No. 10 in its weekly rankings.
For the second consecutive week, there were no changes in the top-10 rankings. Auburn is still No. 1 while No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 TCU, No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 5 SMU rounded out the top-five. Georgia stayed at No. 6 as Fresno State (No. 7), South Carolina (No. 8), Baylor (No. 9) and UT Martin (No. 10) followed.
The Skyhawks are coming off a 2-0 weekend in Delaware, turning away Eastern Conference Athletic Conference foes South Dakota State (12-4 on Friday) and Delaware State (11-9 on Saturday). The victories improved UT Martin to 4-0 in the league standings and 4-3 overall.
In the two wins over the weekend, the Skyhawks displayed balanced scoring as the Western discipline claimed 12 points and the Jumping Seat squad posted 11 victories. The Western squad accounted for four of UT Martin's six MOP's, claiming that title in horsemanship and reining in both meets. The Skyhawks also earned MOP titles in fences and flat during the matchup against South Dakota State.
Individually, Mia McAfoos led the way for UT Martin with back-to-back MOP's in horsemanship. She was one of eight Skyhawks to go 2-0 in their respective event over the weekend, joining Emerson Maier (fences), Bridget Vieau (flat), Elizabeth Becker (flat), Gabby Adams (flat), Lillian Laney (horsemanship), Logan Putvinski (reining) and Elise Mason (reining). Maier, Adams, Lexi Bailey and Aubrey Malone each secured MOP accolades to cap off a spectacular weekend for UT Martin.
The Skyhawks have now been ranked in the top-10 nationally for 31 consecutive weeks heading into their spring schedule, which begins on Feb. 7-8 in Auburn, Ala.
