WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin reclaimed the No. 10 spot in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll today as just two spots changed from last week's set of rankings.
Auburn kept its No. 1 ranking while only the No. 2 (Texas A&M) and No. 3 (TCU) spots flipped. Oklahoma State remained at No. 4 and was followed by No. 5 SMU, No. 6 Fresno State, No. 7 Georgia, No. 8 South Carolina, No. 9 Delaware State and the No. 10 Skyhawks.
Today's announcement comes three days after UT Martin (2-3) hung tight with top-ranked Auburn before falling 14-6 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex. The Skyhawks came away with a pair of MOP medalists in Gabby Adams (86 points in flat) and Elise Mason (73 points in reining) while five different UT Martin riders established new career-highs in scoring throughout the day.
Lexi Bailey continued her successful senior campaign for UT Martin as she went undefeated in both Western discipline events (76 points in horsemanship, 72.5 points in reining) against the Tigers on Saturday. Lillian Laney's score of 75 in horsemanship and Elizabeth Becker's 87 points in fences were also good enough for Skyhawk victories against Auburn while five other UT Martin head-to-head setbacks came by two points or less.
On the season, all three of the Skyhawks' losses have come at the hands of nationally ranked competition as UT Martin fell 8-7 to current No. 6 Fresno State and 12-7 to current No. 4 Oklahoma State before its setback to Auburn. The Skyhawks have flexed their muscles against fellow Eastern College Athletic Conference squads, defeating South Dakota State (15-5) and UC Davis (16-4) by a combined score of 31-9.
UT Martin is off for the next two-plus weeks before finalizing its fall season with a pair of meets in Felton, Del. on Nov. 15-16.
