WACO, Texas – Three days away from making its season debut, the University of Tennessee at Martin remained in the No. 8 slot in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings.
With just six dual-discipline meets so far dotting the first two weeks of the NCEA schedule, all 10 teams remained the same as the Sept. 19 preseason rankings. However, four of the top-five positions were shuffled as Auburn takes over as the new No. 1 team in the land. The Tigers are followed by No. 2 SMU, No. 3 TCU, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 South Carolina, the No. 8 Skyhawks, No. 9 Delaware State and No. 10 Fresno State.
UT Martin is making the 850-plus mile trek to Brookings, SD for a pair of meets this weekend. The Skyhawks will take on No. 10 Fresno State in a nationally ranked showdown on Friday, Oct. 4 before squaring off against Eastern College Athletic Conference rival South Dakota State on Saturday, Oct. 5. UT Martin has not faced its former conference foe Fresno State since Feb. 7, 2020 as the Bulldogs now compete in the Big 12 Conference. On the flipside, the Skyhawks have battled the Jackrabbits the most times out of any opponent in school history, posting an impressive 18-3-7 record since the program's inception during the 2006-07 campaign.
This weekend will mark only the fifth time in UT Martin's 19-year history that the program starts the season on the road. The Skyhawks have defeated South Dakota State in each of their last three visits to Brookings dating back to Oct. 15, 2021.
