1/24/2024 8:15:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team returns home to play in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center by hosting Ohio Valley Conference rival Southeast Missouri on Thursday, Jan. 25. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The contest also serves as Student-Athlete Recognition Night in the Elam Center. Throughout the night, the Skyhawks will honor their student-athletes for their OVC academic achievements.
The Skyhawks (6-11, 3-3 OVC) are looking to get back to their winning ways after dropping back-to-back contests to a pair of league leaders in Little Rock and Morehead State. Most recently, the Skyhawks struggled to find their offensive rhythm at Morehead State after shooting just 31.7 percent from the floor and committing 21 turnovers.
UT Martin is led offensively by freshman Kenley McCarn who ranks third in the league with 15.7 points per game – including 17 points in back-to-back contests. Sophomore Anaya Brown is averaging 13.3 points per game while ranking amongst OVC leaders in both rebounds (8.1 rpg, third in OVC) and blocks (1.7 bpg, second in OVC).
Southeast Missouri (6-11, 3-3 OVC) has picked up steam over the past two weeks by winning three of its last four contests. The Redhawks open a three-game road trip with their trip to Martin while averaging 75.8 points per game over the last four games. The squad is led by guard Jaliyah Green who is averaging 14.3 points per game while Alecia Doyle isn't far behind with 13.4 points per night.
Thursday's contest marks the 79th meeting between the two programs with UT Martin holding a 45-33 series advantage dating back to 1977. The Skyhawks have won seven of their last 10 games against the Redhawks while splitting the season series in 2022-23 – with each team winning on its home court. UT Martin has won every game on its home court against SEMO since its last setback on Jan. 14, 2017.
The contest will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+ while local listeners can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Davis Gregory (analyst) call the action live from courtside. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
