
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS TO CAP OFF FOUR-GAME ROAD TRIP AT OVC-LEADING EIU

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will cap off its four-game road trip with a return trip to the Land of Lincoln for the second time in a week while taking on Eastern Illinois which sits atop the Ohio Valley Conference standings on Thursday, Feb. 9. Tipoff from Lantz Arena is slated for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (10-13, 6-6 OVC) is playing its fourth game in seven days after beginning their current four-game road trip at SIUE last Thursday. UT Martin is 2-1 on the road swing after sandwiching wins against SIUE (83-64) and Evansville (80-60) between a setback to Lindenwood (84-75) last Saturday.
In the team's most recent contest, UT Martin played a rare February non-conference matchup against Missouri Valley Conference foe Evansville. The Skyhawks led for over 35 minutes of the contests while cruising to a 20-point victory for head coach Kevin McMillan's 100th career road win. The squad posted season-highs field goal percentage after making 58.8 percent of their attempts while boasting two players with 20 points or more for the second time this year.
Sophomore guard Shae Littleford returns to her hometown of Charleston, Ill. after earning her first career OVC Player of the Week honors following a week in which she averaged 24.5 points 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Littleford has scored 20 points or more in three straight games – including a career-best 29 points at Lindenwood on Saturday.
Freshman Sharnecce Currie-Jelks picked up her sixth OVC Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last week. Prior to the weekly honors announcement, Currie-Jelks tallied a game-high 26 points along with six rebounds against Evansville on Monday. She is just the second player in program history to earn six OVC Freshman of the Week honors in a single season, joining Ashia Jones who accomplished the feat during the 2013-14 campaign.
Eastern Illinois enters the matchup with a 19-3 overall mark and an unblemished 11-0 record in league play to sit atop the OVC standings. The Panthers are 10-2 at home this season while having not lost a game since Dec. 22 at Minnesota.
The Panthers are led by OVC Player of the Year candidate Lariah Washington who leads the league with 18.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, newcomer Macy McGlone has had a big season with 12.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
UT Martin leads the all-time series 40-22 and has won seven of the last 10 meetings against Eastern Illinois. The Panthers came out victorious in a January matchup in Martin by a final score of 78-63.
