UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS RETURNS HOME TO HOST EVANSVILLE ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team returns to the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center to play host to its second straight Missouri Valley Conference foe with a matchup against Evansville on Saturday, Dec. 2. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
UT Martin (0-6) is still searching for its first win of the season – which will mark the 700th in program history – after equaling the team's worst losing streak of the Kevin McMillan Era. The Skyhawks are hoping to avoid dropping their seventh consecutive game which would rank as the longest losing streak since the 2009 campaign prior to McMillan's arrival.
A young Skyhawk squad which actively features only freshmen and sophomores in the rotation, has shown promise recently, but has not found a way to get over the hump. The squad overcame a double-digit deficit at North Alabama before coming up just short on the road two games ago by a final margin of 70-63. The team then rallied to post their best offensive performance of the season against Murray State but fell victim to the Racers three-point shooting touch in an 88-75 setback.
Redshirt-freshman Kenley McCarn paces the team with 12.5 points per game – including a season-best 19 points against Murray State on Tuesday evening. Sophomore Anaya Brown narrowly missed out on her second double-double of the season against the Racers and heads into Saturday's matchup averaging 11.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Freshmen Morgan Borgstadt (8.3 ppg) and reigning OVC Freshman of the Week Norah Clark (8.2 ppg) sit just outside the team leaders.
The Elam Center has been a place the Skyhawks have relied upon to win games over the past 15 seasons. UT Martin has posted a 136-41 record (76.8 winning percentage) at home during the direction of McMillan since the 2009 campaign.
Evansville (1-5) snapped a four-game losing streak of its own by knocking off Chicago State (103-102) in a high-scoring triple-overtime thriller on Sunday before then suffering a setback to Bellarmine (64-58) on Wednesday evening. The Purple Aces feature four players who average in double figures, led by the play of Kynidi Mason Striverson who averages 17.8 points and 4.7 assists per game. Nevaeh Thomas (10.8 ppg), Alana Striverson (10.5 ppg) and Maggie Hartwig (10.3 ppg) round out a balanced scoring sheet.
Saturday's contest marks the 17th meeting between the two programs with UT Martin holding a slim 9-7 advantage in the all-time series. The Skyhawks have controlled the narrative recently however, winning the last seven head-to-head matchups with the Purple Aces – including an 80-60 road victory last season.
While the game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+, fans can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network locally to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Davis Gregory (analyst) call the action. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
