
MULTIPLE CAREER- AND SEASON-BEST SCORES HIGHLIGHT SKYHAWK RIFLE’S VISIT TO MOREHEAD STATE

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Five of the six University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team members set a new career or season benchmark today as the Skyhawks put the finishing touches on a two-match weekend series at Morehead State.
UT Martin also found success as a team as the Skyhawks set season-highs in aggregate scoring (4,645) and air rifle points (2,343). UT Martin tacked on 2,302 smallbore points – only three points behind its best score of the season in that area – while the host Eagles set school records in overall score (4,691), air rifle (2,368) and smallbore (2,323) points today.
Continuing a remarkable weekend today was Skyhawk junior Alayna Walther, who once again topped the air rifle lineup with a season-high 590 points (including two 100's). Nick Fares posted a 100 in his final relay on the way to a 586 while Joey Kovach contributed a career-best 585 (with one 100 relay). Jeffrey Bourassa fired a career-best 582 for the final countable tally while Aubrey Summers registered a 574 as a member of the scoring lineup.
In smallbore, Walther led UT Martin for the fourth time in as many matches in 2023-24 as the Avella, Pa. native was responsible for a career-best 585 points. Fares (584) followed closely behind with a career-high score of his own while Kovach shot a 578. Bourassa and Jesse Chamberlain closed out the lineup with scores of 555 and 553, respectively.
Walther's aggregate tally of 1,175 was a season-high and additionally the best of any Skyhawk. She joined Fares (1,170), Kovach (1,163) and Bourassas (1,137) as UT Martin representatives who also accounted for season-best aggregate scores. Chamberlain – who set a season-high with 575 as an individual in air rifle – earned 1,128 combined points while Summers ended her weekend with a 1,118 aggregate tally.
The Skyhawks wrap up their fall slate next weekend when they travel to Jacksonville, Ala. for the Gamecock Invitational. UT Martin competes on Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. each day.
