
Kovach Paces Skyhawks In Smallbore On Day 1 of OVC Championships

MARTIN, Tenn. – The 20th-ranked University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team shot a 2292 to finish day one in third place at the 2026 Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championships at the Skyhawk Rifle Range in Martin. Morehead State leads the event after the first day at 2318, while Murray State follows in second at 2314.
Joey Kovach led the Skyhawks in the match with a season-high 580, while Sophia Ashford followed at 574. Rachel Haines was next in line for UT Martin, just one off her career-high, at 570, with Aubrey Chenoweth and Olivia Harvey rounded out the scoring at 568 and 567, respectively.
UT Martin returns to the Skyhawk Rifle Range Sunday for day two of the event featuring the air rifle competition. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
