SKYHAWK BASEBALL CLOSES OUT THREE-GAME SERIES AT SIUE

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Sunday afternoon represented the finale of the second Ohio Valley Conference series for the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team, succumbing to a 7-0 SIUE victory in Game 3 throughout the fourth of a five-game road swing.
Batting in the No. 7 spot in the lineup, second-baseman Alec Beaman gathered a pair of hits in three at-bats in the last chapter of the weekend against the Cougars, doubling for the sixth time in 2022 to highlight his individual stat-line. Elsewhere in the Skyhawk order, the top two batters of Will Smith and Jack Culumovic each landed a hit in the OVC bout, followed by another from centerfielder Reid Halfacre in the nine-hole.
On the mound, junior Matt Dickey was given the starting role for UTM in three full innings of action, where sophomore Tucker Reed mirrored that level of production over the midway portion of the contest. Together, that tandem forced four SIUE strikeouts in over 60 pitches each, paving the way for Blake Davis to finish out the final two frames.
With two conference series now behind them, the Skyhawks will now look ahead to a midweek showdown with Southeastern Conference opponent Mississippi State in Starkville on Tuesday. UT Martin already has valuable experience succeeding against SEC schools, having bested Alabama in Tuscaloosa on March 1st by a 7-6 clip after four late home runs in a landmark victory.
The Bulldogs – who claimed last season's NCAA Championship on a 50-win journey – will enter Tuesday's affair off the heels of a grueling three-game set against #2 Arkansas in Fayetteville, including a 12-inning thriller on Sunday that tipped in MSU's favor by a 5-3 score. Mississippi State now possesses an overall record of 17-12 after avoiding the sweep against the Razorbacks in a hostile environment.
First pitch against the reigning national champs is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
