MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the second straight year, the University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball squad will play for the Ohio Valley Conference Championship title as the Skyhawks outlasted Chattanooga by a 3-2 margin during the second round of the tournament today.
It was a tight finish at Fazoli's Breadstick Beach this afternoon as the match was tied at 2-all going into the final matchup against both team's No. 1's. Things looked grim when UT Martin's squad – consisting of All-OVC honorees Karen Scanlon and Logan Wallick – faced a match-point deficit at 14-13. However, the Skyhawks showed an enormous amount of grit – unreeling three unanswered points to not only take the match but clinched the decisive third point for UT Martin.

The Skyhawks (16-8) also claimed victories today at the No. 4 and No. 2 slots. Kayla Carrell/Addison Conley posted their 23rd win in 24 tries this season out of the No. 4 position, posting a 21-19, 21-17 margin. That win evened the match at 1-all after UT Martin's No. 5 tandem of Brooke Kuball/Addy Vaughn fell 21-9, 23-21.
Hannah Phillips and Dylan Mott flexed their muscles at No. 2, accounting for a convincing 21-16, 21-17 victory to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 lead. The No. 3 matchup came down to a third set tiebreaker as Kambree Lucas/Haeleigh Paulino battled until the bitter end before coming up just short (19-21, 21-14, 15-12).
That set up the dramatic finish as Scanlon/Wallick – appearing in just their second match as a pair this season – came through for a clutch win to send UT Martin to the OVC finals.
The winner-take-all OVC Championship finals is set for tomorrow at 10 a.m. CST as the Skyhawks will battle No. 4 seed Morehead State live on ESPN+.
