SKYHAWK BEACH VOLLEYBALL HAS SIGHTS SET ON 2022 OVC CHAMPIONSHIP

MARTIN, Tenn. – Fresh off seizing the first Ohio Valley Conference beach volleyball regular season title in school history, the University of Tennessee at Martin heads to the 2022 OVC Championship, held in Morehead, Ky. on Thursday, April 28 through Saturday, April 30.
The tale of the Skyhawks' transformation into an annual OVC contender under head coach Jaclynn Wilson is an impressive one. UT Martin hatched its program in 2017 with an 0-15 record and did not play a 2018 season. The Skyhawks then went 3-19 in 2019 and was off to a 4-6 start the next spring before the season got cancelled. UT Martin then won 10 matches during the shortened 2021 campaign – more than doubling the program's cumulative win total up to that point – and advanced to the OVC Championship finals match.
Fast forward almost 12 months later and UT Martin dialed up a school-record 14 victories while sharing the OVC's regular season championship with Austin Peay. The Skyhawks particularly excelled in neutral site matchups, winning nine of those 11 contests.
UT Martin won 69 percent of their individual head-to-head matchups, taking 76 out of 110 sets. The lineup proved to be very balanced as all five slots have won at least 50 percent of their decisions. To further illustrate that point, all 11 Skyhawks who have seen action own at least two wins and at least a .500 winning percentage in OVC play.
Two of UT Martin's five pairings have remained the same throughout the 2022 campaign. The No. 1 team of Dylan Mott/Karen Scanlon have gone 15-7 overall and 5-3 against league foes, winning OVC Pair of the Week accolades twice (March 29, April 5). The Skyhawks' No. 4 tandem of Kayla Carrell/Addison Conley have also nabbed OVC Pair of the Week honors on two separate occasions (April 19, April 26) – joining forces for a sizzling 21-1 overall record and 8-0 mark in OVC play.
Hannah Phillips has played at the No. 2 position all season, registering 11 wins and a 4-4 OVC record. Haeleigh Paulino accounts for a .727 winning percentage (16-6 record) and a 7-1 mark in league play out of the No. 3 spot while Logan Wallick (14-8, 5-3 OVC) and Kambree Lucas (13-9, 6-2 OVC) have bounced between the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
A trio of players have rotated in and out of the No. 5 slot in the lineup as Addy Vaughn (12-8, 4-3 OVC), Brooke Kuball (12-6, 4-1 OVC) and Audrey Haworth (2-4, 2-2 OVC) have all gained valuable experience in their first taste of NCAA Division I beach volleyball.
UT Martin will play the winner of the No. 4 seed Morehead State/No. 5 seed Eastern Illinois match on Thursday at 3 p.m. CST. A pair of matches are on tap for Friday as the field will be trimmed to three squads in advance of Saturday, which will also feature two matches. The tournament victor and automatic OVC entrant into the 2022 NCAA Tournament will be decided at 12 p.m. CST on Saturday.
