MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team sets out for its second win against the SIUE Cougars in as many tries this season in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup on Thursday, Feb. 10. Tipoff time from the Vadalabene Center is set for 7 p.m.
These two teams met back on Jan. 24 in Martin as the Skyhawks came away victorious, 76-70. KJ Simon's 24 points topped all scorers while UT Martin also received significant contributions out of David Didenko (14 points in 18 minutes off the bench), Koby Jeffries (12 points, three steals) and Bernie Andre (11 points, game-high 10 rebounds). The Skyhawks shot an astounding 93.5 percent from the charity stripe - going 29-for-31 - making their most free throws in a 342-game span (exactly 11 years ago on that date, ironically taking place at the Vadalabene Center).
UT Martin (8-16, 4-8 OVC) leads the all-time series against the Cougars by a 15-11 margin. The Skyhawks had won five consecutive decisions in Edwardsville before SIUE claimed a 66-53 victory last season. Since the Cougars joined the OVC, UT Martin has won seven of the 10 outings at the Vadalabene Center.
The Skyhawks are looking to bounce back strong after a 69-61 home setback to Tennessee State last Saturday. The trio of Simon (game-high 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, four blocks, three steals), Chris Nix (career-best 18 points) and KK Curry (10 points) combined for 80.3 percent of UT Martin's scoring.
SIUE (7-17, 1-10 OVC) is looking to snap a nine-game losing skid after opening a three-game homestand with a 76-47 setback against Southeast Missouri on Monday. Playing their third game without OVC leading scorer and freshman sensation Ray'Sean Taylor (who is out for the remainder of the season), the Cougars shot 26.9 percent overall and 11.1 percent from three-point range. DeeJuan Pruitt scored 13 points while Shaun Doss, Jr. - who achieved team-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds against the Skyhawks earlier this season - added eight points and 10 rebounds.
This game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Brandon Burke (color) will call the game locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, in addition to a link to follow along with live stats throughout the contest, are located above.
