
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS SET FOR OVC ROAD MATCHUP AT TENNESSEE STATE

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will hit the road and head for Music City for an afternoon Ohio Valley Conference matchup against Tennessee State on Thursday, Jan. 6. Tipoff from the Gentry Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The matchup marks the 66th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1979. UT Martin holds a 37-28 advantage in the series against Tennessee State – including a five-game winning streak. The Skyhawks have been especially successful against the Lady Tigers under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan, posting a 14-3 mark since 2009-10.
The Skyhawks (4-9, 1-1 OVC) enter the matchup with league's top ranked scoring defense (55.2 ppg) and second in field goal percentage defense (38.7 percent). Meanwhile during league play, UT Martin has seen an uptick in its offensive efficiency as the team ranks first in the OVC in field goal percentage (50.5 percent).
UT Martin is led offensively by junior guard Paige Pipkin who has been impressive as of late. Pipkin ranks as the team's top scoring threat overall with 14.2 points per game while ranking second during league play with 24.5 points per game. She has scored in double figures in eight games this season and four consecutive contests. Joining in the action is Shae Littleford who garnered her first OVC Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals in the opening week of league play.
Tennessee State (7-6, 2-0 OVC) is riding a four-game winning streak and is one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the league standings after the opening week of the season. The Lady Tigers lead the OVC in steals with 14.3 per game and ranks second in turnover margin (+5.23) in second season under head coach Ty Evans.
The Lady Tigers feature a pair of scoring threats who rank in the top-10 in the OVC in scoring as Tatyana Davis (14.1 ppg) and Gia Davis (13.7 ppg) rank eighth and ninth, respectively. Meanwhile Dominique Claytor ranks fourth in the league with 6.9 rebounds per game.
